I need a website, what should I do first?
by David
Even though websites have extensively existed for over 15 years now, many business owners still do not have a website or understand what they need to do to get one for their business.
You may also be someone who had a website built sometime ago, and are now ready to "update" the look of your website.
The first steps are crucial to ensure that you get what you want, need, and within your budget. Below are the first steps you should take when working with New Look to build your company an online image.
Step one ? Decide on a web design budget.
As stated on our services page we have very simple rates to help you decide on a budget. Keep some things in mind. You will need a domain name (yourbusinessname.com), you will have ongoing expenses for web hosting, updating as needed and domain name renewals and any special web-based software, or graphics needs will add to the overall cost of the project.
In our experience, most of the designs we have build for small to mid-sized companies as averaged between $400 to $1,000.
Step two ? What are your goals?
What do you hope to accomplish with this new web adventure? Are you looking for something to promote a product, idea, company or service? Will the website focus on a particular area of your business that you hope to see growth in?
Write down a few goals you have for your website that you can share with us.
Step three ? Your image.
What type of business are you? Travel, industrial, consultants, bunny slipper store, all have different needs. What kind of image do you wish to project? Techno, fun, inspirational, serious; a lot can be put into the look of a website to project a particular image.
Step four ? Do your homework.
Surf the web and look at your competitor?s websites. Look at how they present themselves and the content they provide. Graphics, colors, navigation menus, layout and color schemes can be telling. Decide what you like and what you don?t like and be prepared to share this information with us. Make note of some of the website you liked. It could be you like the navigation on one website, color scheme on another and overall layout on yet another. We will ask you for this list.
Step five ? Gather your graphics and content.
Logos, pictures, text; gather your materials together that you would like to use on your new website.
Step six ? Submit a quote request to us.
Please submit a quote to us using the information you have collected so we can let you know a cost for your project, how long it will take, and answer any questions you have.
In conclusion. . .
We do not build and then reuses templates. Everything we create is custom, and no two designs we build are alike.
We look forward to working with you!
